Greetings to all IMBeR West Pacific Symposium participants!

IMBeR IPO-China plans a series of training sessions with the collaboration of its host institution State Key Laboratory of Estuarine Research (SKLEC), East China Normal University (ECNU) and other partner institutions around the world to enhance the research capacity for the early career researchers (ECRs). Please take a few minutes to fill out the following questionnaires for developing training sessions for ECRs residing in the rims of the Indian and the Pacific oceans, but not limited to those particular areas.

II. Questionnaire for Trainees (ECRs)
(1) What are the methods/techniques you want to acquire in the training sessions? Please specify (ex., environmental DNA metabarcoding, satellite data processing, coastal blue carbon accounting, areal carbon fixation rate measurements and modeling, marine ecosystem modelling, etc.).
(2) Which months of the year are suitable for your case?
(3) How long should it be last?
(4) Is the instruction manual required before the training session?
(5) Is the follow-up discussion with instructors needed?
III. Questionnaire for Providers/Instructors/Mentors
(1) What are the methods/techniques you want to offer to enhance the regional scientific research capability to do state-of-the art observation and experimental manipulation in relation to the purpose of the IMBeR on the training sessions? Please specify (ex., environmental DNA metabarcoding, satellite data processing, coastal blue carbon accounting, etc.)
(2) Which months of the year are suitable for your case?
(3) How long should it be last?
(4) Is it useful to collate scientific intent to participate in the training session from the trainees?
(5) Is it useful to develop a homework assignment jointly with individual trainees during the training session?
(6) Is the follow-up discussion with individual trainees needed after specified time?
IV. Questionnaire for Geostationary Ocean Color Imager II Training Session

IMBeR IPO Shanghai office plans to hold a Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) (https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/data/goci/) training session in the first half of 2022. GOCI-II covers the East Indian and the West Pacific oceans.
IMBeR wishes to identify the potential trainees, timing, and requirements for GOCI-II training session. The session starts with online first and in-person ones in a later stage. IMBeR will organize each session to meet the specific needs of the trainees (custom-tailored training sessions).
Anyone interested in this training session, please answer the following questions. All your answers will be kept confidential.
(1) What is your intent to use GOCI-II products? Could you elaborate on your working hypothesis on how to address your aim (less than 200 words).

(2) Where is the region of your interest in terms of geographic coordinates?
(3) What are the parameters you want to investigate using GOCI-II products? Please specify
(ex., phytoplankton abundance and its species, open water macroalgal abundance, wetland vegetation, suspended particulate matter dynamics, ocean current, sea fog, salinity, colored dissolved organic matter, etc.)
(4) Please specify the period of observation required (e.g., 2021/01/01 – 2021/03/23).
(5) Do you wish to have your first products using GOCI-II data checked by an instructor? (Instructors and trainees may prepare a manuscript to be published after the session, if possible.)
(6) When is a suitable time for you to have the GOCI-II training session? Please specify a few time windows (e.g., third week of May), if possible.
